A website keeps sending alerts? Revoke that site's permission instead of silencing the entire browser. These instructions cover Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Step by step
- Identify the website named in the unwanted alert. Do not click advertised repairs or downloads. Note the domain so you change the correct entry.
- In Chrome, open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Notifications. Alternatively enter chrome://settings/content/notifications directly in the address bar.
- Find the domain among sites allowed to send notifications. Open its adjacent menu and choose Block. If it is absent, add the exact website to the list of sites not allowed to send notifications.
- Check that the domain now appears in the blocked list. Alerts already displayed in the operating system's notification area may remain visible; dismiss those separately.
Check the result
If new alerts continue, inspect the sender. Another Chrome profile, another browser or an installed app may have its own permissions. An advertising window is not the same as a website notification.
Undo and limitations
You can allow notifications again for a wanted website later. Blocking does not delete bookmarks or saved passwords. On managed computers, policies may prevent changes; contact your IT team in that case.
