Ordering a new patch cable takes little time. A short requirements list helps match the connectors, length and installation environment. This editorial checklist supports purchasing; it is not a product test and does not assess the shop’s delivery quality or individual cables.
Record the existing connection first
Write down both devices or ports, the intended cable route and the application. Check that RJ45 copper cabling is actually required. A connector that physically fits does not by itself prove the link is suitable.
Prepare the order in five steps
- Connectors: Compare the port type and plug design at both ends. Allow space for plugs and release tabs.
- Length: Measure the intended route with a reasonable service allowance. Avoid strain on sockets and unnecessary loops.

Check before buying in quantity
For larger projects, obtain a suitable sample first and check fit and the intended application. A working connection alone does not replace a specified acceptance measurement. Plan professional testing of the complete link for critical installations.
