Since I travel a lot – also professionally – on the computer and am busy, I naturally need a printer with appropriate performance. Once it was time to buy a new one, I decided on the Stylus Photo R285 from Epson, which I have not regretted for a second. I hope I can introduce this printer to you and encourage you to buy it.
What does it cost?
The printer itself was much more expensive when I bought it a few years ago than it is now. Anyone who currently opts for the Epson Stylus Photo R285 can already find it in online trading for a price between 50 and 100 euros, although this way is significantly cheaper than regular trading, since there the entry price is usually around 100 euros upwards. But with the costs for a printer it is not only the pure acquisition costs to consider and consider, but also the follow-up costs with ink etc. – These are really ok with this device, because the individual color cartridges are between 2 and 5 euros (depending on the manufacturer) to find and for the black cartridge are only between 1 and 2 euros due.
Are these individual color cartridges?
Many printers often have only one cartridge for the color in addition to the black ink. Thank God this is not the case with this Epson printer, so that you can buy the ink cheaply. The individual 6 colors are each filled separately. However, it has to be said that if one of the color cartridges is empty, the printer also blocks the black and white print. wants to block via the printer control.
What kind of printer is it?
Printers are not only like sand on the sea in terms of manufacturers and models, but also because of their nature. The Epson Stylus Photo R285 is a so-called color inkjet photo printer, which is able to convince by a very sensitive color match and a very convincing print image.
What is the connection or installation of the printer?
Who uses Windows XP and higher has now really no trouble with this point. Simply connect the printer to your own computer via the USB interface and initiate the installation after the message “New hardware found”. Within less than a minute, the device is fully installed and can be used. However, you also get a software CD supplied, which makes it possible, for example, to revise and edit photos with regard to known phenomena such as red eyes and the like very well and quickly. The installation is very fast and easy, especially since the printer not only works with normal USB, but also with USB 2 for example and you can not connect it wrong.
What technical data does the printer have to offer?
The printer itself is already a large device, because its approximately 5 kilograms of weight are distributed over 45 centimeters in width, around 28 centimeters in depth and a good 19 centimeters in height, so that you should already have a little space on his shelf or on the respective desk. The printer itself can also print up to 38 pages per minute when connected with the fast USB port, although both color and black and white print a maximum resolution of a gigantic 5760×1440 dpi is made possible. Also the printing on CDs (by supplied template) or the printing of business cards and other paper formats than DinA4 is absolutely no problem for the R285 from Epson.
What is the print quality?
But now to the crucial point in the assessment of a printer, namely the quality of the respective printout. This is really very good, because both pictures and texts are printed very well, so that your own holiday photos are also put on photo paper. A smearing or blotching with ink has not come to us once and this even though we really have the printer almost daily in use and use it very intensively. What is also positive to mention – the expression does not deteriorate with decreasing ink. If this is the case, i.e., for example, a color cartridge is inclined towards the end, the color composition is automatically adjusted, so that a layman can certainly not recognize any color difference in this case on photos and the like.
We are really consistently very satisfied with this printer, so we can only give the best mark for this.
