The mouse is of particular importance in Excel.
The normal cursor:
It performs the following functions:
- Select symbols from the toolbar;
- Click buttons
- Select Menus or Menu Points
- Activate the image board
- Switch between spreadsheets
- copying or moving cell contents.
The cursor as a cross:
Displayed within the active spreadsheet
For columns and line headers
Marking of individual cells, areas, whole columns, whole rows or the entire table sheet
The mouse pointer as insertion pointer:
When double-clicking into the active cell, the mouse pointer changes to the insertion pointer. Data, formulas, etc. can now be entered.
The mouse pointer as a double arrow:
If the mouse pointer becomes a double arrow, the column width or the line height can be increased or reduced by pulling in the desired direction.
The mouse cursor as Black Cross:
If you move the mouse cursor in the active cell to the lower right corner (on the “button”), it turns into a black cross. With the left mouse button and drag in the appropriate direction, you can now copy the contents of the cell.
The Help Mouse Pointer:
This is a normal mouse pointer with a question mark. This will tell you that you have requested direct assistance.
