Innovations from the Green Tech Valley at Messe Hannover

ECO WORLD STYRIA presents five new trade fairs and 100 other technologies

Graz (pts021/11.04.2013/13:00) – The international technology elite is showcasing its world-class innovations at Hannover 2013. The world’s leading environmental technology cluster, ECO WORLD STYRIA, presented five trade fair innovations and 100 other technologies. This also led to the summit of the two best R&D regions in Europe, Baden-Württemberg and Styria, represented by Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann and Minister for Economic Affairs Dr. Christian Buchmann.

Meeting point of the elite

For the innovative and dynamic Styrian environmental technology industry, which has recently achieved an export quota of 87%, Hannover offers a broad stage to present its world-class products and cutting-edge technologies. The fair in Hanover focuses on leading trade fairs in the fields of mechanical engineering, industrial automation, IT, energy and environmental technologies and R&D. A portfolio that perfectly matches Styrian strengths under the motto „Growth through innovation“. The more than 200,000 expected visitors will be faced by around 6,000 exhibitors from 62 countries on 236,000 square meters, and specialist congresses, forums and lectures will accompany the fair.

It is not only the international professional elite who use the fair in Hanover for an inspiring exchange. The Styrian Economic Affairs Councillor Dr. Christian Buchmann held talks with high-ranking economic policy representatives in order to initiate new economic impulses. A summit of Europe’s leading research regions was held in talks with Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann. Styria, with a research quota of 4.3%, is just behind Baden Württemberg in second place in Europe. Styrian environmental technology is successful worldwide and an economic engine for Styria, which was recently named the European Entrepreneurial Region 2013 by the EU in recognition of its outstanding economic performance. The fact that 50 percent of all Austrian exhibitors here in Hanover come from the Green Tech Valley also testifies to the high level of technological competence of Styria, Buchmann said.

World class products from the Green Tech Valley

„Green flashes of inspiration“, i.e. technologies and products from the Green Tech Valley are in demand on all continents. Be it electricity from wood gas, biodiesel from seemingly worthless waste, multifunctional energy facades or storage technologies – with their innovative solutions, the companies from the Green Tech Valley are among the world leaders. Five trade fair innovations such as the innovative heating lacquer „radheat“ from qpunkt for aircraft and wind turbines, the flexible LED tube from SFL pluslight, the innovative biomass processing technology Torrefzierung from Andritz AG, high-precision density measuring devices from Anton Paar or even the world’s most efficient refrigeration compressor from ACC.

Dynamics and successes

Around 200 companies and research institutions in the ECO WORLD STYRIA cluster are working and researching on the environmental innovations for tomorrow. „Gold“, „Star“, „No. 1“ – these are the attributes that distinguish Styria today, as the world’s leading region for environmental technologies.

The dynamics in the Green Tech Valley can be well expressed in successes and figures. The Styrian environmental technology companies have grown at an average of 18.4 percent per year almost twice as fast as the world markets for environmental technology, mainly thanks to strong exports in the last five years. And have created a total of 6,000 jobs, which is an increase of 10 percent per year.

In the ranking of the global environmental technology clusters, the US venture capital network „Cleantech Group“ voted the Styrian companies and research institutions number 1. Even in the 2012 newly published ranking, this is unchanged. With the „RegioStars Award 2012“, the European Commission has named the Styrian environmental technology cluster the most innovative growth project in Europe. Furthermore, external audits give ECO the highest possible label „Cluster Management Excellence – Gold“ – and with 98 percent audit result, ECO is also one of the best cluster management teams in Europe.
