New version of openITCOCKPIT released

Monitoring tool supports maintenance time management and mass changes

Fulda/Vienna (pts029/04/11/2013/14:00) – A new release has been published for the monitoring system openITCOCKPIT. openITOCKPIT thus offers for the first time a status map with which the own IT infrastructure can be recorded at a glance. The new version also supports setting up regular maintenance times and mass changes, assigning service template groups to host groups, and browsing service lists. This has greatly improved the user-friendliness and configuration possibilities of openITCOCKPIT. The new release is available at http://openitcockpit.org/en/downloads.html.

The status map allows the network topology to be displayed in openITCOCKPIT for the first time using the parent/child links in the system. Administrators can thus comfortably record and maintain their entire IT landscape.

Service management with new mass changes

With the ability to set up mass changes, openITCOCKPIT now offers improved service management. A service template can be used to search for all hosts using the template. If a hostname is searched in the configuration area of the services, openITCOCKPIT lists all hits when entering the first letter. If the desired host appears in the list, all associated services can be loaded with one click on the host. The host can also be selected via the drop-down box.

Easy setup of downtimes

Managing maintenance times has become more convenient by setting up regular downtimes. Periodic maintenance times can be easily set up and carried out and thus better controlled. In the Host Groups pane, a new function allows to assign service template groups to host groups. This allows the user to create many services simultaneously on different hosts of specific host groups. This allows all type-specific network components and their services to be quickly recorded.

In order to browse service lists, the settings area has received a new search function that also supports wildcard functions.

In the new version, openITCOCKPIT allows the generation of multiple service dependencies in a single operation. The services can be selected based on regular expressions. If the administrator wants to create multiple dependencies via RegEx, the system suggests syntax examples that can be selected by clicking.

Summary of all host and service states

In the Host/Service Overview section, openITCOCKPIT now has a summary of all host and service states displayed on each page. This eliminates the need to go back to the start page to get an overview of the current network situation.

A new host/service newssticker has been added that shows all hosts and services with the current status. The user can freely choose which status he wants to display in the list. The list is available as a dashboard and shows a freely definable section of all services/hosts.

Improved visualizations through speedometers and service lamps

openITCOCKPIT has also been improved in terms of ease of use: With live graphs and service speedometers, the user dashboards include two new tools that make it even easier to monitor services. By setting up a live graph (CPU and RAM), the utilization of the CPU or the memory of the openITCOCKPIT server can be displayed in real time. The tachometer generator can be used to set up service tachometers that show the current value of the service, which is determined by Nagios. To create a speedometer, the service passes performance data to Nagios and converts it into a graph. The speedometer automatically updates the data and takes over the update interval from the check interval of the selected service. If the service also passes a unit with the data, it is also displayed in the speedometer. They also integrated service lights that show the current status of a service and a service graph that directly visualizes associated graphs via the service browser.

For the first time openITCOCKPIT is also available without a menu: In order to have a better view of monitored elements, the menu elements can be hidden. This should make the overview of the IT landscape clearer. New in the calendar area is the integrated holiday calendar, which automatically displays legal and user-defined holidays and thus supports resource planning.
