Terms eBook-Reader are portable devices with which electronically stored book contents, so-called eBooks, can be read. Using a special software, smartphones, PCs and tablet computers can also be used as eBook readers.
Already in 1990, Sony launched the Data Discman, which at that time could read CD-ROMS called „Electronic Books“, and for which mainly reference works have been published.
The breakthrough with eBook readers succeeded Amazon, which released the first Kindle in the USA in 2007 and thus triggered the eBook reader wave. A special feature here is the direct connection with the Amazon Kindle online shop, where you can buy eBooks.
