A successful photo story needs fewer effects than a clear dramaturgy. This independently written guide shows a simple workflow. It does not contain adopted manufacturer images or longer manual passages.
Select photos and save them
Copy all candidates into a project folder and secure the originals. Only remove fuzzy or duplicate images from the working copy. A short, varied selection usually seems stronger than any recording of a trip or celebration.
Select project and output format
Create a new project. Choose 16:9 for most TVs and online videos, portrait format only for targeted smartphone outputs. Activate 4K only if the playback device, image material and computer power match it.
Import Media and Order History
Import photos and videos and sort them chronologically or thematically. Build a clear beginning, a varied middle part and a conscious end. Summarize similar motives into short groups.
Tune display time and movement
Give important images more time and reduce repetitions. Use swivel and zoom movements sparingly; Faces and central motifs must not wander out of the picture. Test the sequence without music so that the tempo works alone.
Design transitions and titles
Usually use an inconspicuous fade. Use flashy transitions only as a conscious chapter mark. Titles should be short, have enough contrast and stand long enough to be read without haste.
Using music and original sound
Only use music for which you have the necessary rights. Adapt changes to musical sections without obsessively hitting every beat. In video clips with voice lower the music. Balance jumps in volume before export.
Checking and exporting
View the complete photo story on the target screen. Check image margins, spelling, sound and reading time. Export an MP4 file in project resolution and test it with a normal video player.
Copyright in private and public screenings
Own photos are not automatically free of third-party rights: take into account the personal rights of persons depicted and use music, graphics or other images only with appropriate permission. A license for private use may exclude public or commercial publication.
