Avira: This antivirus solution is available as a free or purchase version but the permanent display of advertisements by Avira is quite annoying, performance bottlenecks can also cause Avira therefore our conclusion: Finger away.
Avast: Although this antivirus solution is safe, however, and in the standard execution free, Avast can highlight problems in Outlook, e.g.: too many decimal places when remembering calendar entries. The solution for this is only if you disable the Outlook add-in from Avast, but the Outlook protection remains then. Avast itself is very performance heavy. For an older computer, we would not recommend this antivirus tool.
Kaspersky: Kaspersky requires a lot of CPU and memory resources, although there is a trial version for downloading, here a purchase version for permanent use is mandatory. We would also not recommend this tool because we found this antivirus protection in some customers and after the de-installation the computer went a lot faster.
Microsoft Security Essentials: Hard to believe, but Microsoft has also since approx. 2 years an own antivirus program in the range this is available free of charge for Windows XP 32bit as well as for Vista 32/64bit and also for Windows 7 32/64bit. This tool does not rob unnecessary system resources. The updates run with the Windows updates simply as long as they are automatically set in the background. Our conclusion: This tool is recommended. We also rely on Microsoft Security Essentials because we can feel optimal system performance and security in the network.
