Granite: Breakthrough in the implementation of software-defined data centers

EMC and IDC on the advantages of branch consolidation

Vienna (pts018/23.04.2013/11:30) – Last Wednesday, 17. In April 2013, Riverbed Technology and its customers presented how the Granite storage delivery solution helps to realize software-defined data centers. The event in New York City focused on software-defined data centers as well as branch consolidation, which is possible with Granite. On site, customers have told first hand how they use the solution successfully. In addition, Riverbed showed in live demos how the new approach helps to migrate data from branch offices to the secure data center without employees in branch offices experiencing performance losses. In addition to customers, high-ranking representatives of EMC and analysts from IDC were also guests. A recording of the event can be accessed here: http://rvbd.ly/ZFN5Ui

Although companies today are often trying to switch to software-defined IT architectures and consolidate IT infrastructures, server and storage components often remain in the branch office to give employees on-site fast access to data and applications. Currently, leading analyst houses estimate that over 50 percent of all company data is in branch offices.

The following analysts, partners and customers attended the event alongside Riverbed:

* Rick Villars, Vice President, Data Center and Cloud at IDC, provided insight into the current status quo of data center architecture and the rapidly evolving solutions for its transformation and converging IT infrastructures.

*Scott Ryan, senior director at EMC, a Riverbed enterprise partner, showed how EMC customers working with Riverbed provide organizations with fast access to data despite being stored in central, secure data centers – almost as if the data were on-site.

* Jerry Vigil, Director of IT Operations, Bill Barrett Corporation and Searl Tate, Director of Engineering at Riverbed client Paul Hastings, explained how they are using Granite to securely consolidate office infrastructure while benefiting from the instant delivery and recovery of data they manage from within the data center.

Riverbed introduced the Granite storage delivery solution, allowing more organizations to fully consolidate their IT infrastructure into branches. Granite can „suck up“ servers and storage from branches so that they can be controlled and controlled centrally via the data center. Companies are able to fully consolidate their servers and storage systems, at the same time detach themselves from remote backups and increase data security.
