Using ABBYY FineReader Touch to easily convert and share documents and text
Munich, 23. April 2013 (pts024/23.04.2013/12:45) – ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture, linguistics and professional services technologies, today announced the release of the new ABBYY FineReader Touch. This is an innovative text recognition (OCR) application designed specifically for Windows 8, the new user interface optimized for touch displays by Microsoft. ABBYY FineReader Touch provides text recognition and document conversion via ABBYY’s cloud-based OCR service. This allows users to easily convert scanned documents into text formats such as Microsoft Word or TXT.
ABBYY FineReader Touch service is available from the Windows Store and is one of the first OCR applications to support the new Windows operating system and its newly developed user interface for touchscreen devices.
ABBYY FineReader Touch is compatible with all devices running the new Microsoft Windows 8 operating system. Users can export processed files in cloud storage systems, such as Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive and Microsoft SkyDrive, or save the finished documents on the local hard drive of their tablet or computer.
ABBYY FineReader Touch is the ideal helper for people who want to digitize documents or save them in editable formats for their work, as well as for students and students preparing reports and research papers.
The application processes the images in the ABBYY Cloud and offers text recognition in 42 languages, including multilingual documents. Since formatting attributes, such as headings, enumeration and number lists, columns, tables or images, as well as the layout of documents are precisely adopted during the conversion, a large number of document types can be processed exactly.

The application requires few computing resources, as most of the processing runs on Microsoft Windows Azure, said Sergey Popov, Director of FineReader Products Department, ABBYY.

ABBYY FineReader Touch is easy to download and install from the Windows Store. The application is offered with a flexible pricing model on a credit basis, with users paying only for actually processed pages. The prices for document conversion range between 3.50 euros for 50 pages and 7.00 euros for 200 pages. Users who only occasionally need good OCR can thus save money in a meaningful way. Each registered user receives a certain free quota of pages for free use.
