Nokia 3310: back up memory-card files to a computer

This guide concerns the Nokia 3310 in the linked HMD manual. It does not cover the original Nokia 3310 from 2000 or automatically apply to other 3310 variants. Identify the exact model first. HMD describes USB mass storage for content on an inserted memory card.

Define scope and destination

Photos, videos, music and other personal files on the card can be copied to a compatible computer. This does not imply that contacts, messages, settings or all internal phone storage are included. List the required folders and data types. Charge the phone and create a new computer folder with model and date; check available space.

Copy the files

  1. Connect the phone using a compatible data cable. Select Mass storage on the phone as described by HMD.
  2. Open a file manager such as Windows Explorer. Identify the card by its folders and capacity. Cancel any formatting prompt: formatting is not a backup step.
  3. Select the required folders and explicitly use Copy and Paste into the new destination. Do not cut or move; dragging can perform a different action depending on the destination.
  4. Wait until copying finishes. Record read errors and skipped files. Do not disconnect during active reads or writes.

Verify independently

Compare file counts, folder structure and sizes between the selected source and destination. These checks detect missing data but alone do not prove intact content. Safely eject through the operating system and disconnect the phone. Open several photos, videos and documents directly from the computer folder with suitable software. Check important individual files additionally; a successful sample does not prove every file is complete.

Keep a second verified copy on independent storage. Preserve the original card until the backup demonstrably meets your needs.

Limits and failures

If mass storage is unavailable, check the correct manual, data cable and port; do not install arbitrary driver packages. If read errors occur or the card disappears, do not format or attempt unverified repairs. For irreplaceable data, first assess an appropriate recovery route.

HMD separately describes Backup > Create backup with data selection. This is not the same as the file copy verified here and does not prove a backup includes everything. A restoration test must not overwrite original data.
