On June 4, CIS and Quality Austria will address protection systems according to ISO 27001
Vienna (pts005/24.04.2013/07:45) – Industrial espionage, data breaches, cyberattacks – 2013 is the year of prominent victims: governments in Europe were spied on by a security vulnerability in the Adobe reader. According to Thyssen Krupp and EADS, well-known US companies reported hacker attacks, including Microsoft, Apple and Twitter.
60% of internal espionage
But industrial espionage from within its own ranks is also an underestimated danger. According to a corporate trust study, 58 percent of industrial espionage damage is caused by employees. „The prevention of information theft is complex – it is important to protect digital and analog data, oral information and know-how in the minds of employees,“ explains Erich Scheiber, Managing Director of the certification organization CIS. The international security standard ISO 27001 addresses comprehensive information security. More than 20,000 companies worldwide are already certified according to ISO statistics, and around 2,000 are added each year.
Security symposium: from A1 to UNIQA
For example, CIS and Quality Austria are organising the 9th Information Security Symposium, VIENNA 2013 under the motto: „Standardization of Security & Services according to ISO 27001 / ISO 20000: effective and transparent“. On June 4, they invite you to the Kursalon Wien, where more than 200 participants from leading companies are expected. The 2012 registration list read like the who-is-who of the security scene: from A1, BRZ or Frequentis to KAV or Kapsch to Siemens and UNIQA.

Events like these raise awareness among companies of effectively protecting themselves against information leakage. This makes standardized systems that improve the level of protection and process efficiency all the more important, emphasises Minister of Economic Affairs Reinhold Mitterlehner, who is responsible for the protection of honour. The topics range from „data security in e-government“ to „secure cloud services“ to „BYOD – from a legal point of view“. Finnish Awareness Researcher Mikko Siponen: „Employees‘ Compliance with the Information Security Procedures: Make it Work“.
