First, I would like to explain the “Personal Hotspots” Begin. With this function, the iPhone creates its own W-LAN, to which you can connect e.g. with your laptop when you are outside the house. The function is also handy for leveraging mechanisms that check whether you are on the Internet via mobile or Wi-Fi. An example of this is FaceTime on iPhone 4 or app downloads >50MB. If you are in the 3G network, these two things are not allowed. But if you use, for example, a second iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot, nothing stands in the way of video calling and the urgently needed gigabyte navigation app on the go.
Apple or not, not always everything goes around…
It often happens with new iOS devices that the point „Personal Hotspot“ is not directly in the „Settings“ menu. This can have two causes:
- The option is not supported or must be purchased as an additional package, or
- The menu item is still hidden. When setting up countless iPhones (from iOS 4 to iOS 6), I always noticed this error from Apple unpleasantly. If you go to the menu once, in which you can deactivate „Mobile data“ or „3G“ (in the currently current iOS 6 under „Settings – General – Mobile network“), you will also find a point called „Personal Hotspot“.
If a circle rotates next to it, the function is not (yet) enabled by the provider.
However, if you stand „Off“, you simply tap on it and activate this practical function. Now you can also find the menu item directly in „Settings“ under the first 5 choices.
I have also often observed a second phenomenon: With the Wi-Fi connection between laptop and iPhone everything seems to be perfect, but you still can not get on the Internet with the laptop (although it still worked last time). As so often, it helps here to throw all the apps from the multitasking menu (double click on Home button and remove all the apps in the unfolding bar), and restart the iPhone with a reset (press Home button + Power button at the same time until the apple comes). Then there are the opportunities Internet pleasure All right again.
