Kapsch presents new solution suite and sets up new ITS Business Unit
Vienna/Birmingham (pts021/16.04.2013/12:45) – Kapsch TrafficCom, one of the leading technology companies in Austria, with around 2,700 employees worldwide, will be exhibiting at Traffex 2013 from 16.-18. Announce the establishment of a new ITS Business Unit. The aim of the new division is to expand the company’s activities beyond the core business of electronic toll systems. Existing sales channels, existing know-how and proven technologies are used.
The new division will be responsible for solutions in the areas of Road Safety Enforcement, Traffic Management, Commercial Vehicle Operations, Electronic Vehicle Registration and the emerging V2X Cooperative Systems division. With the establishment of the ITS Business Unit, Kapsch TrafficCom is taking an important step towards offering customers all services from a single source. We want to become a pioneer in the ITS industry, driving the trend towards transforming the various ITS solutions, says Peter Ummenhofer, VP Business Unit ITS.
A fully integrated solution suite
With „Kapsch Force“, a comprehensive and fully integrated solution suite will be presented in the area of Road Safety Enforcement during the Traffex in Birmingham in April this year. This Road Safety Enforcement suite was developed on the basis of Kapsch’s extensive operational know-how gained through the operation of ETC systems and the use and operation of Road Safety Enforcement solutions from its subsidiaries in South Africa and Italy.
This comprehensive enforcement suite will support the overwhelming majority of enforcement applications: red light, point and section speed controls, Weigh-In-Motion (WIM), and commercial vehicle identification/validation. In addition, „Kapsch Force“ also offers traffic monitoring functions that help police and other authorities to increase public safety.
Kapsch has determined the special characteristics for the area of enforcement and on this basis developed a new solution whose operating concept differs greatly from all previous ones. Most manufacturers and suppliers of enforcement systems initially went to the market with radar and red light cameras and work from this area. In contrast, Kapsch has developed a back-end solution for Road Safety Enforcement. In contrast, Kapsch has developed a back-end solution for Road Safety Enforcement that takes into account the fact that, in addition to simple data exchange, payment processing is often required today. The system can therefore directly pay costs for data and information services or in connection with traffic violations. „Kapsch Force“ is technology-independent and can be connected to front-end enforcement devices of all manufacturers.
Also with the offer of operational and organizational experience Kapsch differs from other providers. This is also an insight from the toll collection sector, where managed services are becoming increasingly important. In today’s economic environment with often tight budgets, this plays an increasingly important role. In addition to the technology offerings, the ITS Business Unit will also offer a range of business models including fully managed services.
