Review of Acer Aspire X3900

Hello dear readers,

the loop of unexpected events does not end, because on 27.06.2011 at 23:15h my PC did not give any sign of life, even the use of a specialist did not lead to the desired success. Now I have had a brand new device for less than a month and would like to share my experiences with you, this is the ACER Aspire X3900 with i3-530 processor. As usual, a few words about the manufacturer!

Companies:

ACER was founded in 1976 and has been trying to close the gap between humans and modern technology ever since. The simplicity and user-friendliness, as well as the handling of world-friendly materials (go far) has always pursued ACER as a goal. As the second largest provider in the global PC and mobile market, as well as the successful combinations with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, it strengthens the global market position and ensures further growth of the company.
Over 30 years of success in the rapidly evolving IT industry show that ACER has chosen the right course and with currently 8,000 employees worldwide and a sales volume of 19.9 billion in 2010. US$ is. Further information about ACER can be found at www.acer.de

Procurement / Price

Since there was no longer anything to save on my old PC, I contacted my electronics store “Expert Bening” and inquired about a new device that meets my requirements. Without ifs and buts, the nice salesman immediately made me understand that I absolutely need a robust and powerful device for my reports at admin-center ***Grins***. So it had to be an ACER and since the X3900 is optimally designed for my needs, I took the carton under the arm and the even nicer cashier demanded 499,-€ for it. Honestly, I paid 598,-€, because a guarantee extension to 5 years seemed very important to me, but more on that later.

Packaging / Scope of delivery

A stable cardboard box contains, in addition to a lot of styrofoam and plastic films, which should be disposed of well separately:
– Tower with a size different from the norm of width x height x depth

– Keyboard (unfortunately cord-bound)
– Mouse (unfortunately cord-bound)
– Guarantee certificate for the first 2 years
– Information sheet on registration with Microsoft
– Adapter for analogue VGA connection

The appearance of the tower

The tower is completely in black, with the front presenting itself in piano lacquer optics. A small maintenance flap on the front side hides various connection options where I will go into it again later. After connecting all the necessary cable layers and assemblies, we press the POWER button, which is located on the oblique edge of the front. Violently, the POWER button starts to shine in a beautiful blue tone and extends not only 7cm on the upper edge, but also 12.5cm on the right vertical side. (a light organ is shit…but ***laughter***) As usual, the ventilation slots are at the rear, with this device having a further ventilation feed at the top of the computer due to the rather small TOWER.
ATTENTION: So just do not put anything on the computer in order to have to claim the warranty early.

Operation

Speed

Compared to my old PC, the Acer Aspire X3900 looks very small, but is capable of much more due to the sophisticated technology. It was not until the beginning of January 2010 that the Intel Core i3 530 processor was introduced into the first computers. With two computing cores (dual), he not only makes the right gas when writing reports and other documents, but also music, video and image editing can be carried out without jerking and misfiring.

Connections behind the service door

Since the hard drive has been divided by 1 terabyte into two partitions of the same size (458GB / 458GB), fast access to the required data is optimized. Fast access to removable media, such as a USB stick with important data, is made easy by the 5 ports located on the front. Here, it is no longer necessary to move the device, also the disconnection of USB devices remains, as there are another 4 USB ports on the rear. We therefore have other comfortable connections behind the maintenance flap, such as a headphone jack, microphone connection, an SD card reader and a DIVX connection for your digital camera or video camcorder.

Fun playing

Although I only dare a game once in a while, I have bought the game “A New Beginning” to be able to assess the performance of the graphics card. As the experts among you know, the Intel processor i3 is equipped with an integrated graphics chip, but ACER has used an ATI Radeon HD 5570 with 4091MB in the Aspire. Good, because she ensured clean pictures while playing and a perfect pace when reloading new film sequences. The Direct X 10 certainly contributes to this with a calculation of 47 frames per second. Thus, even elaborate graphic games can be reproduced in high resolution and with many graphic details without problems. The graphics card has two digital monitor outputs, an HDMI output and a DVI output, as not everyone has a monitor of the newer production is included with the adapters for the simple analog monitor connection. The adapter for the analogue connection does not deteriorate the image quality at all, since I have also once run the computer on my Toshiba TV.

Quietness

On the first launch, I only saw on the blue list that the device is on. When starting Windows, you hear a whirring of the large fan of the graphics card, otherwise you can not hear. In game and video mode, the fan already works more often but is no longer audible due to a voice and sound reproduction.

DVD drive

The DVD drive is located behind the front and is covered by a bezel in piano lacquer optics. Between the maintenance flap for the connections and DVD drive is the eject button, here the high-level DVD drive for inserting a CD/DVD is opened or closed. The drive is a Phillips brand burner with the following capabilities:
Read: 48-fold CD-ROM, 16-fold DVD-ROM
Writing: 48-fold CD-R, 32-fold CD-RW, 16-fold DVD-R, 6-fold DVD-RW, 16-fold DVD+R, 8-fold DVD+RW

Sound

The sound is generated via the Realtek ALC 888 sound processor and can be operated with a home cinema system (which I do not own). The sound of my subwoofers and the small boxes is extraordinarily good and is sufficient for my interests, even for classical music.

Accessories

About the keyboard from Acer (SK-9620) and the mouse also from Acer (M-SBR-ACR2) I do not want to report unnecessarily, because they work but are simply simple!

Extension of the guarantee

In order to be protected from any nasty surprises for the next 5 years, I have completed the all-round carefree package. Here is an excerpt from the contract of the insurance for 99,-€:
Acer Advantage is a warranty extension program that can be purchased together with Acer products such as notebooks, PCs, LCD monitors, projectors and PDA/GPS devices. It guarantees you a PRIORITY REPARATURE SERVICE.
The program offers warranty extensions in various versions (depending on the selected product and extension) such as:
• Service at the Acer Repair Center or at the customer’s site
• Coverage from 2 years of carry-in up to 5 years of on-site service
• Quick exchange to guarantee maximum availability of the purchased product
• Free repair of accident damage
Furthermore, you will be guaranteed telephone support for the entire duration of the extension and the possibility to purchase an additional notebook battery with a 30% discount (applies only to notebooks – no netbooks).
The goal of the Acer Advantage program is to guarantee Acer customers that they can always rely on a dedicated and timely service in each country of the European Economic Community to make the best use of the product they have purchased.

Conclusion

Thus, I have received a powerful device with optimal protection for 5 years, which meets my requirements. No one can deny a little game in honor unless the technical skills of the game makers overtake me. Also the price of 499,-€ plus 99,-€ guarantee extension can be seen. I hereby pronounce my purchase recommendation for an ACER PC and forgive 5 out of 5 stars today, should a negative shadow arise in the meantime I will update this report and inform you about it.
