What is Ultra HD?
UHD is called Ultra High Definition and is the direct successor to the Full HD TV experience. The UHD resolution is four times higher than Full HD. Thus, the image quality of devices equipped with this new technology is many times sharper than with conventional HD devices. The great advantage is that the distance to the television still does not have to be increased, even in the case of large plasma televisions.
Ultra HD and 4k ultra HD
Two terms that sound similar, but what exactly is the difference? The solution is very simple. Ultra HD is the format, 4k ultra HD is the resolution to that. 4k has been used in video format for several years, so the designation causes some confusion. Since 2012, there is only the name Ultra HD. There are certain standards that must be adhered to in order to use the name Ultra HD. Among other things, the smallest resolution must have at least 8 million pixels and 4k TV ports that are also capable of transmitting 4k content. The company Sony has even taken both names. Their TVs are 4k UHD devices.
The dissolution
Ultra HD Provides images with a resolution of 8.3 million pixels, that is, the 4k in the horizontal view has almost 4000 pixels. This property provides the crisp images. To compare Full HD, its resolution of 720p theoretically fits 9 times in an Ultra HD image.
The disadvantage of this is to say that there is hardly any native 4k content that has a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels possession. In addition, the quality of a stretched image, if an upscaling is performed on the Ultra HD, will always be below that of a higher resolution.
